The settlement that developed around the church of Agios Dimitrios was naturally the original fabric of the village of Brahami. The location of the church of Agios Dimitrios was, from the first moment of its foundation, where it is today, at the central point of the village and according to evidence it was erected during the two years 1895 – 1897.
This was Brahami in the interwar period. Until then, the village of Brahami belonged to the Municipality of Athens, while as the Community of Brahami it was founded in 1925 and by decree of that year it became administratively independent from the Municipality of Athens and formed a community that included the settlements of Brahami, Agia Varvara (Daphne today), Katsipodiou, Picrodaphne and Agios Kosmas.
In 1928 the community was renamed Agios Dimitrios and in 1942 it became the Municipality of Agios Dimitrios.
