The municipality has an area of 4.574 km2.[3] It is surrounded by other districts of Athens: Kallithea, Nea Smyrni, Agios Dimitrios and Alimos. The Pikrodafni stream flows into sea on the border of Palaio Faliro and Alimos. Palaio Faliro is at the Northwest part of what is referred to as the Athens Riviera. Park benches surround two giant outdoor chess boards where you can watch locals going head to head. The promenade is also a popular starting point for\u00a0cycling trips\u00a0along the Athens Riviera. Cycle paths curve along the coastline, linking with nearby Piraeus or further south to glitzy\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/area_info\/glyfada\/\">Glyfada<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"h3 black-four lh-1-2 bold paragraph__title\"><strong>Eastern Delicacies<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"black-five lh-1-8 p large all p-margin-30 all-hover-links d-ul paragraph__description\">\r\n\r\nFaliro\u2019s culinary scene is infused with eastern flavours, imported by the Greeks from Istanbul who settled here in the mid-1970s.\u00a0<strong>Riviera<\/strong>, a neighbourhood staple since 1978, perfumes the streets around it with the scents of\u00a0<em>mastiha<\/em>\u00a0(a Mediterranean resin) and\u00a0<em>mahlep<\/em>\u00a0(an aromatic spice made from cherry stones) thanks to Stelios Karapiperis\u2019 sweets from the old city.\u00a0<strong>Divan Patisserie<\/strong>\u00a0is prized for its\u00a0<em>kaymak<\/em>\u2014clotted cream made with water buffalo or sheep\u2019s milk\u2014and\u00a0<em>tavuk gogsu<\/em>\u00a0(milk pudding with chicken breast).\u00a0For a more substantial meal, head to\u00a0<strong>Suzanna<\/strong>, a delicious mash-up of Lebanese and Turkish cuisine. The humus heaped with toasted pine nuts and fiery\u00a0<em>iskender<\/em>\u00a0kebab are knock-outs, and the many vegan and vegetarian options include\u00a0<em>manti<\/em>\u00a0(mushroom dumplings in yoghurt sauce) and\u00a0<em>mucver<\/em>\u00a0(courgette, feta and dill fritters).\r\n<p class=\"h3 black-four lh-1-2 bold paragraph__title\"><strong>Park of Flisvos<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"black-five lh-1-8 p large all p-margin-30 all-hover-links d-ul paragraph__description\">\r\n\r\nYou\u2019ll struggle to find a more\u00a0kid-friendly\u00a0outdoor option in Athens (outside of beach season) than this extended run of seafront parkland. It\u2019s divided into a number of play zones suitable for different ages. There are the bouncy castles, slides and pirate ships demanded by toddlers and plenty of climbing challenges, skate rinks and trampolines to please the older crew. The canteen tables are well-placed alongside the swings and rides, so parents can keep a close eye and still enjoy the sea view. Flisvos Park also offers satisfaction for kid-free visitors in the form of scenic walking and cycling paths, outdoor fitness stations and basketball courts.\r\n<p class=\"m-article-element__content__title h3 black-four lh-1-2 bold paragraph__title\"><strong>Eugenides Planetarium<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"m-article-element__content__description black-five lh-1-8 p large all p-margin-30 all-hover-links d-ul paragraph__description\">\r\n\r\nVisited by more than 200,000 people per year,\u00a0the planetarium, run by the Eugenides Foundation for science education, has a 950 square-metre dome, on which it screens 3D virtual trips to the galaxy, as well as IMAX movies and other shows. Some of the screenings have been dubbed into Greek, but you can buy earphones on site or bring your own, and watch the show in English.\r\n<p class=\"h3 black-four lh-1-2 bold paragraph__title\"><strong>Cultural Highlights<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"black-five lh-1-8 p large all p-margin-30 all-hover-links d-ul paragraph__description\">\r\n\r\nPeople don\u2019t flock to Faliro for its cultural attractions. Even so, there are several off-the-beaten-track sites for those craving more than sun and sea. Explore the 140 metre Averoff, the pride of the Greek navy after its starring role in the Balkan War in 1912. Docked permanently at the Flisvos Marina, it\u2019s now home to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisathens.org\/place\/254\">Averoff Naval Museum<\/a>\u00a0\u2014an interactive and fun experience for all ages. At the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisathens.org\/place\/279\">Benaki Toy Museum<\/a>, over three thousand vintage toys are displayed in an impressive 19th century villa. Military buffs can pay their respects to the soldiers of the Commonwealth killed in battle in Greece during the Second World War at the immaculate\u00a0<strong>Phaleron War Cemetery<\/strong>. This is one of the most enjoyable spots in the city to catch global headliners such as The Killers to the Beastie Boys, along with smaller concerts and local bands. Next to the\u00a0<strong>Olympic Tae Kwon Do stadium<\/strong>, it\u2019s easy to get to by tram or bus and you\u2019re just steps from the water.
