Following the Asia Minor Catastrophe in 1922, many Greek refugees from Turkey resettled in the Athens basin. Glyfada began to evolve, slowly urbanizing as Athens expanded southward. However, it wasn\u2019t until after World War II, and especially in the 1950s, that Glyfada saw a dramatic transformation.\r\n\r\nDuring this post-war boom, the United States Navy established a base nearby to support its operations in the Mediterranean. This brought a wave of American families, culture, and investment into the area. American-style diners, golf clubs, and shopping centers appeared, earning Glyfada the nickname \u201cthe Beverly Hills of Athens.\u201d It became synonymous with affluence, modernity, and international flair \u2014 a suburb unlike any other in Greece.","area_video":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/el\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/area_info\/21106","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/el\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/area_info"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/el\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/area_info"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/el\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/area_info\/21106\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":29897,"href":"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/el\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/area_info\/21106\/revisions\/29897"}],"acf:attachment":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/el\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/19699"},{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/el\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/19695"},{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/el\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/19691"},{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/el\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/19687"},{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/el\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/19683"},{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/el\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/19679"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/el\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/19683"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/el\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=21106"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"area-location","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zafido.gr\/el\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/area-location?post=21106"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
